Due to the Covid19 pandemic, many artists have found themselves without work, teaching technical support, gallery work. Although the ‘new normal’ may have returned to most shops and other service providers, artists still find themselves in limbo with exhibitions and sales continuing to be mainly non-existent.
On Instagram, @matthewburrowsstudio instigated the brilliant initiative @artistsupportpledge, a simple concept whereby artists support each other by posting images of works they are willing to sell for no more than £200 each (not including framing and postage). Every time £1000 of sales is reached, the artist pledges to buy another artist’s work, or several artworks to the value of £200.
As part of this pledge, I am offering the below Folded Colour Tiles. Created from folding, layering and stitching together layers of acid-free drafting film and photographic lighting gels, the surface colours gradually change as the angle of view or illumination changes. Each tile is created to order as part of a limited edition of five.
Each artwork measures 24 x 24 x 2.5cm and, with invisible UV resistant fluorocarbon thread, are meticulously sewn onto its white MDF background. They are offered non-framed although there is a recommended option for a £75 white-sprayed Obeche wooden box frame (32 x 32 x 4.5cm) with UV70 art glass. The art glass greatly reduces, but does not eliminate entirely, the amount of reflection.
@artistsupportpledge will continue to run until a sense of the new normal returns to the artworld and art fairs and sales are up and running. If you are interested in an artwork (framed or unframed), please contact me through my Instagram at @tonyblackmoreart or email [email protected] for further details. Thank you!
